Project Angel is an overseas community service project initiated by the NUS Students' Science Club. This is our 10th expedition since its formation in year 2000. Project Angel X (PAX) will be visiting 2 villages in Siem Reap, Cambodia, with the primary focus of enhancing the learning environment of the Cambodian Children. The project will start from 20th May – 10th June 2008.
The aims of the project are as follow:
1. To raise funds for the children in Cambodia.
For Project Angel X, we hope to raise funds to aid us in buying building materials for village schools in Tapang and Kampong Phluk, as we will be building 1 classroom for each village, the first to replace an old classroom at Tapang and the second to introduce a new classroom for Grade 7 students (equivalent to Sec 1) at Kampong Phluk.
We also hope to equip the Cambodian children with hygiene knowledge and some basic vocabulary to create interest in the learning of English. Then, we would also want to paint hygiene practices murals on the walls of the new classroom to raise health awareness. Finally, we also hope to set up a computer training centre in Siem Reap to equip the Cambodian children with IT skills, and our primary target will be the street kids, orphans and needy children, so that they can have more opportunities in the job market.
2. To learn more about the culture and living environment of our counterparts in Cambodia, and in the process, learn to appreciate our country more.
3. To create social awareness of our project and the situation in Cambodia.
4. Encourage volunteerism among youths of today.
